As the foundation stone above the main entrance indicates Clifford School was founded in 1832, opening its doors primarily to the children of the Parish of St. Andrew's, in Sharrow - Sheffield. Since those early days, the school has endeavoured to give a sound academic education, positive values and a sense of security to children nurtured in the caring, Christian atmosphere of a small Church School.
At Clifford we have a community where every child is known to every member of staff and to each other. Clifford is a small school, and has the distinct advantage of being able to provide a secure family atmosphere for each individual child. We believe that all children are unique and have a valuable and vital role to play in the life of the school and the wider community. Within the school structure, we encourage all children to reach their full potential. We offer a number of extra-curricular activities, including sports, computer work, science activities, recorder lessons and a singing club. We are a happy, caring, high achieving school which provides a good foundation for our children's school careers.
Our school has three classrooms. The Reception classroom was built in 2009 and provides excellent access to the outside space. Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard. The multi-purpose hall is used for P.E., assemblies and school meals. We also have a library (which is to be refurbished in 2010 to incorporate a relaxed space for children to access information in a multimedia environment). We have hard surface playgrounds at the front, side and back of the school. The back playground is mostly used by reception and contains a small climbing frame and covered area. We also have a garden with a seating area, small adventure playground and den. In 2009/10 the garden is being reorganised to include more wildlife areas and more colourful planting. The school council are playing a key role in the changes.

As a Church School we have continued our links with the parish church of St. Andrew's, Psalter Lane and aim to make these links meaningful to both the school and the church. The children visit the church, and take an active part in the services every half term, enabling them to experience worship in the church building. The vicar, Methodist minister, or a member of St. Andrew's Psalter Lane comes into school each week to take assembly. We will continue to uphold the Christian ethos of the school ensuring that Clifford School is a place where children feel valued and loved.
